India: The Modi Question

1 February 2023

A few days ago, BBC released a two-part documentary titled “India: The Modi Question.”

The Indian government has since banned this documentary.

The Indian authorities have detained several groups, including university students, who gathered to watch this documentary.

I call on the Fijian Government to closely monitor the actions of the Indian mission in Fiji.

Sincerely yours,

Savneel Sangeet Kumar

Mr. Rabuka should keep TELS and improve the scheme by covering its loopholes

    5 January 2023

On 8 December 2022, the fijivillage.com quoted Mr. Rabuka—

“A People’s Alliance government will cancel debts over half billion dollars in students’ loans to pay for their higher education.”[1]

First of all, let’s take into consideration that there is no People’s Alliance government in place but a coalition government comprising three political parties as you already know. Any attempt by Mr. Rabuka to waive Tertiary Education Loans Scheme (“TELS”) loans must receive the support of his coalition partners. read more

The Great Council of Chiefs was not as great as its name suggests

    3 January 2023

Discussions have begun in the nation whether the Great Council of Chiefs should be re-established. Mr. Rabuka and his gang in the new coalition government have expressed their interest in favor of the Great Council of Chiefs.

Firstly, it is impossible to re-establish the Great Council of Chiefs with the same legislative authority as it shared under the Constitution of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of Fiji dated 25th July 1997 (“1997 Constitution”) unless the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji dated 7th September 2013 (“2013 Constitution”) is amended by the procedures set out in the 2013 Constitution. read more

    Dear Sir,

RE: Humble Appeal to support our Iranian Climbers

As a person interested in human rights matters, I submit to you in good faith in support of our Iranian Climbers and other athletes who are facing the harshest whip of their regime.

As I am writing this letter, Suva, the capital city of Fiji is installing a new government, democratically elected, and is giving an ended to 16 years of dictatorship, suppression and crime under the FijiFirst Party rule. I am in a good position to understand the situation our Iranian Climbers are facing. read more

    Suva

    Dear Sir,

RE: Forming government with FijiFirst Party is a better choice than People’s Alliance Party

    Namaste.

I am not a supporter of the FijiFirst Party (FFP) but today I am taking the hard decision in suggesting you to form a coalition government with FFP.

As much as I am disheartened with the fact that the FFP government has burdened our nation with more debts and draconian laws, forming a government with FFP is a better choice than working with the People’s Alliance Party (PAP). read more
