Fiji Mountaineering and Climbing Association wants to be affiliated to the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC).
Association president Savneet Sangeet said they were initially established as a sporting federation in February last year.
“We are looking forward to meeting with the FASANOC chief executive Lorraine Mar and discussing our official membership,” Sangeet said.
“We are a registered body and we are recognised by the Fiji National Sports Commission and the Ministry of Youth and Sports as we are responsible for promoting climbing and mountaineering in Fiji.
“It is also affiliated to the International Federation for Sport Climbing based in Switzerland.”
Meanwhile, Sangeet attended a training programme at the Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering in Darjeeling, India from November 21 to December 18, 2018.
There were 70 participants ranging from different countries, including USA, Ukraine, Switzerland and Nepal.
Sangeet climbed the Renok Peak (5,200metres) located in the Sikkim Himalayas in India.
The training programme was funded by the Fiji National Sports Commission and the High Commission of India in Suva.
