A National Federation Party (NFP) provisional candidate believes that same-sex marriage should be legalised in Fiji.
But, the former schoolteacher maintained that this is his personal views and not of the party.
Savneel Sangeet said he respected human rights and anybody had the right to choose whom they wanted to marry.
“As such, I think same sex marriage should be allowed in Fiji,” Mr Sangeet said.
But for the 27-year-old, his passion is all about advocating for children’s rights and reducing child abuse.
He believes that harsher punishment must be implemented for people who abuse children.
Last year he walked around Viti Levu and Vanua Levu to help create awareness on these issues.
While teaching, Mr Sangeet came across a number of cases where students were left traumatised as a result of being sexually abused.
He said he joined the NFP because he believed there was a prospect for youths in the party.
“I’m not undermining other parties but I feel I have that connection with youths,” he said.
“I would like to advocate about child rights, it is an important issue.
“My main concern is that child sexual abusers should be thoroughly penalised regardless of what preachers and human rights activist are saying.
“I think children are becoming victims of sexual abuse, which is entirely unethical and wrong, and for that I would like to ask the public and political parties to see that child abuse perpetrators are severely punished.”
